Was the Crayola Experience Worth it?

January 17, 2018 by heysherwood

We took Riley to the Crayola Experience at the Mall of America for her birthday. She’s turned two and since kids under three get in for free, I thought maybe there wouldn’t be more than one or two age appropriate activities for her.

We ended up being there for four hours. So yeah, there was plenty to do. I think coloring is so great because kids of any age can have fun – Michael and I even had a ton of fun!

They had a huge coloring station with lots of coloring sheets and as you can see, buckets of crayons. And we did go on a Saturday, so for the Mall of America, the Crayola Experience had plenty of room for the amount of kids that were there on a freezing cold Saturday.

This whole room was made of chalkboards and whiteboards – which was one of the really fun activities for all kids but especially younger ones. The Spin art station was also really cool. It was fun to watch and a really cool piece to take home. You get to control the speed to change the design. Riley just liked watching it but super fun for older ones.

Last there was two giant playgrounds where the kids could get their energy out. we stayed here for at least a full hour. I couldn’t even get a picture of Riley, she was having too much fun. But they did have this giant light bright board where you can make pictures. It was great for Titus and both kids were happy to play here for a while. They separated the play areas into one for kids under 5 and over 5, it was nice not to have any big kids pushing the little ones out of the way.

Overall we had a ton of fun and I would definitely recommend anyone with kids of any age to go!

New Years Revelation

January 6, 2018 by heysherwood

At some point after a few weeks of downing cookies and pie, you have to slap yourself in the face and realize “WAIT A MINUTE. I’m going to get so fat if I do this forever.”

Christmas isn’t a lifestyle people, It’s a celebration. That’s right. Put the cookie down.

And that’s why I think New Years Resolutions are valuable.

We actually want to press on to more. Challenge ourselves. People who say “I don’t need new years resolutions to do better.” well whoop de doo for you.

If you don’t reflect on your life during New Years because you think it’s too cliche, you should find time at some point during the year to reflect and refocus.

Do I actually want to be where I am? How do I move? What are my actual obstacles? What excuses am I pretending are obstacles?

I think we should all take New Years to reflect on the direction of our lives, whether your goal is to lose 20lbs this year or not, at least stop and reflect on where you are and where you want to be.

4th of July

July 6, 2017 by heysherwood

This 4th of July weekend we had a ton of fun. We went up to Duluth to visit my brother, lit off some small fireworks and smoke bombs with Riley at Michael’s parents and played around with long-exposure photos and sparklers. I’ve been enjoying capturing family moments with my DSLR. We tried to get some great shots of fireworks but picked the wrong spot. We were way too close to get good ones and the kids were about to go deaf. We did however get some great shots of the lightning storm that came through town. I’ll probably share those in another post.

I hope you also had a great 4th of July! What did you do?

Memorial Day Weekend

May 31, 2017 by heysherwood

This Memorial Day weekend we went to Buffalo to spend some time together. I’ve been trying to improve my photography lately. Michael was able to get the photo of the bunny – he just sat there modeling for him! I hope you were able to spend time with family this weekend like we were.

Baby Titus

May 13, 2017 by heysherwood

Titus came to join us May 8th. I was really hoping we’d share a birthday but that’s okay. This way we both still get to have our own day.

We ended up going in for an induction on Monday morning because he just didn’t want to come on his own. I was 10 days overdue. He came within 6 hours of starting the process. I’m so glad it turned out the way it did because he came so fast and postpardum recovery so far has been a breeze! Which definitely helps since I’m still chasing Riley around. 🙂

We’re so excited that he’s finally here. 2 Corinthians 7:6 says “Then the God who lifts up the downcast lifted our heads and our hearts with the arrival of Titus…”

What’s in my Hospital Bag

May 5, 2017 by heysherwood

It’s so crazy that baby is already almost here! Last time I was in a hospital with Riley I brought stuff but I was totally underprepared in some ways and way over prepared in other ways. Here’s what I’m bringing this time around. Let me know if you have any other ideas!

  • Nursing bra
  • Nursing cover
  • Loose shirts – I’m bringing about 3 loose shirts
  • Going home outfit (Something better than huge sweatpants. I regretted not having something slightly nicer last time)
  • Flip Flops
  • Socks (The ones we were given were so ugly and I didn’t really think of this one last time!)
  • Toiletries for you and him
  • Space in your bag (or an extra bag for any goodies and gifts to bring home)
  • Towel – Bring your own towel if you want it to actually fit around your body and not scratch your skin off.
  • Change of underwear
  • Makeup
  • Hair straightener
  • Belly Bandit (highly recommend getting something similar. It helps you feel so normal after birth!)
  • Camera + Gear
  • Snacks
  • Multiple outfits for baby
  • Baby Blankets
  • Carseat (This one is obvious, but we have it installed and ready to go!)

Any day now!!
